I, Emulation Info

Please read our
emulation info page for details concerning the offered roms, compatibility and legal!

II, BS Zelda - Map 2

For a long time word circulated of a second map for the first BS Zelda game (the remake of the first NES game), but until recently it was believed that no dump of the game had ever been made. Fortunately this has now been proven wrong!
Althena77 gave us this rom after getting it from Makuchan, owner of a
Japanese website with some info on it. We thank them for allowing us to return yet another lost game to the Zelda fans, the Fourth Quest of the original The Legend of Zelda, no less!
The game, as it is, runs as week 1 (and therefore only the first two dungeons are available by normal means) and has some minor glitches (with the music in particular, the ending fanfare playing all the time). However ways around these problems have been found and it is already possible to play the whole game as intended!

A, Patched Roms

1, The BS Zelda Restoration Map 2 rom: Included is
- Complete Map 2 patch (by Roto and Con)
- Upgrade Map 2 patch (by Dreamer_Nom and Con)
- Restoration Map 2 patch (by Con and Euclid)
- Waitsign and Fortune Teller spc Map 2 patch
- English Translation patch (by Duke Serkol and Bumpus)

- Check the subfolder "optional patches" for more optional hacks
- Recommended Add-On: The MSU-1 patch (supported only by bsnes/higan/sd2snes). This patch enables a full restoration of the original broadcast in CD-quality, dubbed in English! Find the location of the required files and how to set it up in the readme included in the patch folder.
- You can apply this Map2 restoration - Map1 overworld/dungeon data (by MottZilla) to play map1 data in the technical advanced Map2 code.

This rom makes the game as original as currently possible. See below what the patches feature! The game begins each week at 07 and the week skip is time related at every 57 minutes.
Difficulty: Hard (time limit). If you don't finish the game in time, it is Game Over (but you can still replay week 4 to succeed).

Download the Japanese Version here (without Translation patch)

2, The Legend of Zelda - Fourth Quest rom. Included are
- Complete Map 2 patch (by Roto and Con)
- Upgrade Map 2 patch (by Dreamer_Nom and Con)
- LOZ-FQ patch (by Con and others)
- English Translation patch (by Duke Serkol and Bumpus)

- Check the subfolder "optional patches" for more optional hacks
- You can apply this FourthQuest - Thirdquest overworld/dungeon data (by MottZilla) to play Thirdquest data in the technical advanced Map2 code.

This rom makes BS Zelda to a "regular" Legend of Zelda - you play without a timer and with classic characters and triforce symbols
Read more about the Fourth Quest Project (site also contains single patches).
Difficulty: Easy (no timer at all) - the concealed week skip is Triforce related. It is recommended to begin with this rom if you play BS Zelda the first time.

3, The BS Zelda Link Version Map 2 rom: Included is
- Complete Map 2 patch (by Roto and Con)
- Upgrade Map 2 patch (by Dreamer_Nom and Con)
- Decoration Map 2 patch (by Con and Mottzilla)
- English Translation patch (by Duke Serkol and Bumpus)
- Complete Link patch (decoration vers. 12/06/2008 by Duke Serkol)
- Soul Calibur II Magic Set (decoration vers. 12/06/2008 by Duke Serkol)
- Time Crack (by FloBBaSKo)

- Check the subfolder "optional patches" for more optional hacks
- You can apply this Map2 Decoration - Map1 overworld/dungeon data (by MottZilla) to play Map1 data in the technical advanced Map2 code.

This rom allows you to play BS Zelda with Link and a sword and shield more up to date with Nintendo's latest reinterpretation of them.
Difficulty: Medium (Timer, but no limit). The week skip is Triforce related and you stay in the week you are until you collected both week's triforce pieces.

4, The MottZilla Project rom by MottZilla: It features
- Works on authentic Real Super Nintendo Hardware!
- Title Screen and Story Roll!
- Classic feeling Menu System!
- Both Map 1 & Map 2 Quests in one rom!
- Four full Weeks of 50 minutes playtime!
- Playable from Beginning to End!
- Different Endings for Success and Failure!

This project is designed to play BS Zelda on Real Hardware, combines both maps and to avoid some emulation problems.
This patch is NOT compatible with Roto's, DN's upgrade, Restoration or time patch! The work of MottZilla is a complete alternative project.
Read more about the MottZilla Patch Project (site also contains single patches and japanese version).
Download the German Translation patch by Svambo/ KillBill_158 (RH Version)
Difficulty: Hard (time limit). If you don't finish the game in time, it is Game Over (but you can still replay week 4 to succeed).

B, Original Rom

Download the BS-Zelda - Map2 as it was dumped in week1, and found. The (as far as we know) only patch applied is to prevent the 7 minutes waiting time at the beginning (and a header by Eddzzz has been added to facilitate patching).
- You can apply this Map2 native - Map1 overworld/dungeon data (by MottZilla) to play map1 data in the technical advanced Map2 code. Apply this patch first on the above native rom, then patch with Roto, Dreamer Nom and afterwards with either restoration, fourthquest or decoration. You can of course also apply all optional patches (translation, anti-monster respawn as well).

For some purpose (e.g. real hardware) it is necessary to have this map2 rom in swc format

C, Important Patch Files

I, With this fantastic BsZelda Map 2 complete beta patch by Roto (transcribed for Map 2 by Con) you'll have the
- chance to play the game from beginning to end the way it was meant to be (with all scheduled events)
- a save ram feature
- music
- title screen
- the choice between the mascot and the girl
- no breaks or waiting time

II, The Map 2 Upgrade patch by Dreamer Nom (transcribed for Map 2 by Con). The patch
- prevents the game from crashing when creating a new game
- saves and loads the Magic Shield, Sword and the Bomb Bags correctly
- makes the correct week objectives show up
- fixes the messed up bosses
- adds a name entry feature
- generally improves the code

In short, this patch will fix most of the problems persisting after Roto released his patch.
Apply this patch AFTER Roto's patch.
Inside the zip file you find a japanese version if you want to play japanese without translation patch.

III, As soon you have applied the above patches (I and II) you can choose one of the following styles that you want to play.

This spc patch must be preapplied before you can use the optional: MSU-1 patch (by Con)

This patch makes the game closer to the original broadcast.
Mainly, this patch makes the week skips time related (not triforce related as in Roto's patch). Check the subfolder in the patch file for single patches! Inside the zip file you find a japanese version if you want to play without translation patch.
Apply this patch AFTER Roto's Complete and DN's Upgrade patch!
Do NOT use this patch together with the FQ-loz or decoration patch below!
The translation patch below is required to avoid bugs, unless you patch with the japanese restoration you find in the zip package (requires also japanese upgrade patch version),

III b, Download the LOZ - Fourth Quest patch, which purpose is to transform BS Zelda into an old fashion Legend of Zelda game. Included are:
- disable the timer and hide it by Dreamer_Nom/Con

Apply this patch AFTER Roto's Complete and DN's Upgrade patch!
Do NOT use this patch with the restoration patch above or the decoration patch below! Also do NOT apply the English Translation patch from below, it already is translated.

III c, Download the Decoration Map 2 patch, which purpose is to make an Update of Roto's and DN's patch and keep aspects of the gameplay when we started to patch BS-Zelda. Included are:

Do NOT use this patch with the restoration patch or the loz-FQ patch above!
The translation patch below is required to avoid bugs

IV, Translation patches

- The English Translation for the game by SmashManiac (07/16/2017). The old translation by Duke Serkol (5/26/00) is also part of the zip file.
- The French Translation by BessaB Traductions
- The Spanish Translation by Dervour
- The German Translation by Svambo (Reworked by KillBill_158)
- The Japanese Restoration by Conn (mainly for use on the restoration patch, as the restoration patch destroys the kanji)
You can apply the patches to any rom, if you patched it from scratch. The LoZ-FQ has already an own English translation merged. In the zip files of the french, spanish and german translation you find two patches; one for any of the prepatched english roms (Official, FQ, Link version) and one japanese version if you patched from scratch.

D, Interesting Patch Files

2, The BsZelda Complete Link Patch by Duke Serkol. It
- changes the mascot to Link, also in the menu of Roto's BsZelda Complete.

It's furthermore different from Damodred's as this merely changes the graphics without cracking the timer and Link's sprites are slightly different. Will work also with an unpatched rom. This is an updated version (12/05/2008). Check the subfolder for the old file. If you play with the decoration patch, please apply bslink_deco.ips to change Link as well in the beginning/ending screen and to display the correct ring in the menu.

3, With this Soul Calibur II Magic Set patch by Duke Serkol and Dracul, BsZelda will
- feature the Magic items as they appear in Namco's game and the original LoZ's manual

Refer to the readme file to make the best of it. The new version (06/12/2008) features compatibility with the shield patch and the decoration patch.

4, The Classic Sprite Patch by Con, based on patches by TeRRaBiT88 and Vel. It
- changes the mascot to newLink
- changes the girl mascot to Zelda (and rescue Zelda to slave Zelda)

Check the subfolders if you want only one mascot changed.

4, With this Triforce Tile Set patch by Con, it turns
- the Large Shield into the Hylian Shield
- the Book of Magic in the Book of Mudora
- the Magic Sword into the Master Sword
- and Triforce Symbols on the Gravestones

So all crosses get triforces. Use triforce_time.ips if you have applied the time patch, otherwise use the triforce_normal.ips. Oh, and the place of the book is of course faked.

5, This is a Goriya patch I received from Obreck987@aol.com that
- one patch makes the girl from the unpatched file a Goriya
- the other patch makes the boy to Pikachu and the girl to Gorya
- the third changes the girl to Saria (green hair)

E, Old Patch Files

1, With the Music patch made by Real_Hotdog
- you have ingame music
This patch is based upon Roto's first Sound Patch To hear music, load a savestate from above or play with SNESGT!

2, The Waitsigns off patch by Con. With this patch you
- get rid of those nasty waiting signs

3, The Gender patch by Real_Hotdog. With this patch you have the possibility to
- change the mascots' gender

4, The Link patch by Damodred to
- play as Link
- crack the timer

(don`t use this and FloBBaSKo's patch together).

5, This updated Zelda patch by VEL allows you to
- play as Zelda and rescue Link
- play as Zelda and rescue Link and fight a different boss in the seventh dungeon

This is the Version 1 Zelda patch by VEL to
- play as Zelda and rescue Link.

The Zelda tyle is part of the character patch by Con, so apply this patch only if you want to fight a differnt monster in D7 or want to rescue Link (character patch uses a "slave Zelda")

6, Here is the patch made by FloBBaSKo to
- stop the crash occurring after every 57 minutes

III, Video

Full Game Playthrough
After the first video above, near the end of year 2007, recordings of the whole game were eventually found.
Kiddo Cabusses used his YouTube account to upload them so now we can all see how the game would originally play (and most importantly sound, as the videos contain all the soundtrack and voice acting used in the game). They lack the introduction sequence though, so it is reccomended you view first part of the video above before watching these. Map 2 used identical soundstream as Map 1.
