This rom's game only exsisted for four hours and it was only a available for a limited time.
Thus Nintendo shouldn't be troubled nor make any losses
if it is downloaded for free, because you can't buy neither the BS-X system
nor the game anywhere and even if you were able to purchase the BS-X you the satellite
wouldn't be transmitting the game anymore. This game is similar to the classic Zeldas which at
before being re-released couldn't be bought, either. Conrad VanderWoude from the ZHQ had the
classics for emulation on his page. Read more about the reasons in
For a long time word circulated of a second map for the first BS Zelda
game (the remake of the first NES game), but until recently it was believed that no dump of the
game had ever been made. Fortunately this has now been proven wrong!
Althena77 gave us this rom after getting it from Makuchan, owner of a
Japanese website with some
info on it. We thank them for allowing us to return yet another lost game to the Zelda
fans, the Fourth Quest of the original The Legend of Zelda, no less!
The game, as it is, runs as week 1 (and therefore only the first two dungeons are
available by normal means) and has some minor glitches (with the music in particular, the
ending fanfare playing all the time). However ways around these problems have been found
and it is already possible to play the whole game as intended!
A, Patched Roms
1, The Map 2 Restoration rom: Included is
- Complete Map 2 patch (by Roto and Con)
- Upgrade Map 2 patch (by Dreamer_Nom and Con)
- Restoration Map 2 patch (by Con and Euclid)
- English Translation patch (by Duke Serkol and Bumpus)
- Magic Shield unused sprites patch (by Con)
- Textbox Translation patch (by Hiei-, DarthNemesis, Beno, Con)
This rom makes the game as original as currently possible. See below what the patches feature! The game begins each week at 07 and the week skip is time related at every 57 minutes.
Difficulty:
Hard (time limit). If you don't finish the game in time, it is Game Over (time crack does not work - you get a bad end).
Download the Japanese Version here (without Translation patch)
2, The Legend of Zelda - Fourth Quest rom. Included are
- Complete Map 2 patch (by Roto and Con)
- Upgrade Map 2 patch (by Dreamer_Nom and Con)
- LOZ-FQ patch (by Con and others)
- English Translation patch (by Duke Serkol and Bumpus)
This rom makes BS Zelda to a "regular" Legend of Zelda - you play without a timer and with classic characters and triforce symbols
Read more about the Fourth Quest Project.
Difficulty:
Easy (no timer at all). It is recommended to begin with this rom if you play BS Zelda the first time.
3, The Link Version Map 2 rom: Included is
- Complete Map 2 patch (by Roto and Con)
- Upgrade Map 2 patch (by Dreamer_Nom and Con)
- Decoration Map 2 patch (by Con and Mottzilla)
- English Translation patch (by Duke Serkol and Bumpus)
- Complete Link patch (decoration vers. 12/06/2008 by Duke Serkol)
- Soul Calibur II Magic Set (decoration vers. 12/06/2008 by Duke Serkol)
- Time Crack (by FloBBaSKo)
This allows you to play BS Zelda with Link and a sword and shield more up to date with Nintendo's latest reinterpretation of them.
Difficulty:
Medium (Timer, but no limit. If you fail you'll loop back in the week you are). At the time, the restoration patch isn't applied and thus the week skip is Triforce related.
4, The Real Hardware Map 2 rom by MottZilla: It features
- an animated title screen and item list!!!!
- many aspects of Roto's and DN's patch (music, triforce related week skip, etc)
- many aspects of the Restoration patch (blue manhandla, complete triforce, etc)
- updated v.1.1 (ending screen, further fixes)
- English translation patch (by Duke Serkol)
This project is designed to play BS Zelda on real hardware and to avoid some emulation problems.
Download the BSZ-Map 2 Lite patch to apply on the original SWC rom. This patch is NOT compatible with Roto's, DN's upgrade, Restoration or time patch! The work of MottZilla is a complete alternative project. It is buggy on JP SFC, so use a US SNES!
Difficulty:
Medium (Timer, but no limit). The week skip is Triforce related.
B, Original Rom
Download the BS-Zelda - Map2 as it was dumped in week1, and found. The (as far as we know) only patch applied is to prevent the 7 minutes waiting time at the beginning (and a header by Eddzzz has been added to facilitate patching). For some purpose (e.g. real hardware) it is necessary to have this map2 rom in swc format
III a, Here is the Restoration Map2 patch which purpose is to restore the original BS-X Gameplay of the game. Included are:
1, This voice acting set by Con based upon the patch byFrank
Pero.
III, Video III, Utilities IV, Emulators V, Misc
Week 1
Here you may download a two parts video taken during the original broadcast of BS Zelda,
the first part features the introduction of the game that
was seen while it was loaded into the BS-X, and the second
part shows the actual gameplay.
Beno also made a translation (with pictures) of the video.
We hope to get more in the future.
1, You will need an ips exe to patch the rom.
2, Or if ips exe gives you problems you may use Snestools.
3, Or if DOS gives you problems you may use IPS Win.
4, Click here for a Hex-editor (AXE v2.0), if you need it (see walkthrough of Map1)
5, Download here an Editor that Roto made for the game. You may ask Bumpus if you have any questions on its usage.
6, BS-Zelda Tile Ripper Copyright © 1998-2000 Armageddon Games
1, Zsnes1.14 Dos and Windows the best emulator when using patches and save states.
2, SnesGT v0.205e is proved to emulate this game most correctly without patches and save states.
3, Snes9x v1.41, will work properly only if you patch the rom.
4, Nlke v0.03b.
A, Text Dump
Here you can download a txt file with all the text from the
translated game.
B, Midi File
If you finished the game, get this nifty midi of the game's final (obvious spoiler) made by MottZilla. It is the only music NOT remixed from the original Zelda1 (thus made specifically for this game).
C, Fonts
Here you may download all fonts used on this site. Copy them to /Windows/Fonts:
Genoa, Amazone BT, (my) Con's Handwriting, Lucida Handwriting, Old English and Comic Sans MS!
