Subrosians
Subrosians are the mysterious inhabitants of the underground world of Subrosia, under Holodrum.
They are very short, only as tall as a human child, and they always wear thick robes that cover
their entire bodies, even when they take baths into lava, which is also their food. No one knows
what a Subrosian really looks like. There is therefore no way for outsiders to to tell the males
and females apart, except for some of the latter who occasionally wear colorful ribbons. If we
were to speculate, we could imagine the Subrosians to be of a mineral nature similar to the
Gorons or organic, like big intelligent moles, but capable of living in the lava like dragons.
Somehow they may be humanoid in looks as the sight of Link doesn't seem to concern them despite
their secrecy. In fact, they may think he is just a very large, immodest Subrosian.
Subrosians enjoy a wide range of hobbies in their spare time. Some Subrosians like to dance,
others relax for hours in their lava baths. Treasure hunting is a universal pass time among
Subrosians. Many of them hope to find star-shaped ore, a rare kind of ore found only by the sea
and use it to get dates. Rosa, a Subrosian pop star, is very popular and goes on many dates.
When the Temple of Seasons fell into Subrosia, putting a halt to the flow of lava and thus
endangering all Subrosians who could starve, these still found the spirit to dig for treasure
and found a variety of stuff from the world above which they could not make sense of and
eventually sold as curiosities.
Because both Gorons and Subrosians are not bothered by heat, the two cultures have a lot in
common. In fact, the Goron dance is the ancient origin of the Subrosian dance. Gorons also
appreciate Subrosian food (though supposedly not as much as their rocks). When Biggoron had a
cold, it was Subrosian lava soup that made him feel better. Most Subrosians work with metals for
a living, either mixing ores (which they also use as currency) or making weapons and shields.
In such an occasion, when Link politely asked to have a shield made for him, the Subrosians gave
him a wry retort figuring that he did not care much for it. But then when Link blurted out that
he wanted his shield made as soon as possible, he was surprised to find the Subrosians delighted
by this. When the same thing happened with the pirate's bell, he realized that this must be how
the Subrosians talk to each other: they prefer direct, even rude, answers to their questions.
In the over all scheme of things, Subrosians are a very minor race. They keep the entrances to
their world secret, so they have not been involved in most of the major events in the rest of
the world.
