Prologue: The Creation of Hyrule

Preface: The Creation of Hyrule

The legends say the mythical goddesses of Hyrule had as their chosen people the Hylia. This ancient race left scrolls that are the primary source of the legends.

Before time began, before spirits and life existed...

Three golden goddesses descended upon the chaos that was Hyrule...

Din, the goddess of power...

Nayru, the goddess of wisdom...

Farore, the goddess of courage...

Din...

With her strong flaming arms, she cultivated the land and created the red earth.

Nayru...

Poured her wisdom onto the earth and gave the spirit of law to the world.

Farore...

With her rich soul, produced all life forms who would uphold the law.

The three great goddesses, their labors completed, departed for the heavens.

And golden sacred triangles remained at the point where the goddesses left the world.

Since then the sacred triangles have become the basis of our worlds providence.

And, the resting place of the triangles has become the Sacred Realm.

The Triforce, each triangle, could bestow a title to its owner: the "Ruler of Power", the "Administrator of Wisdom" and the "Temperer of Courage". The three triangles, though, were meant to stay united. They were known as the Triforce.

Within its hiding place in the Sacred Realm (also called the Golden Land) where the Goddesses placed it, the Triforce waited for people from the outside world to seek it in the hope that someone worthy of guiding the world would find it.

Unfortunately there was a danger inherent to the Triforce... just as a symbol of the goddesses, it was coveted by many and a verse from the Hylian legends made the Triforce even more desirable:

In a realm beyond sight,

The Sky shines gold, not blue.

There, the Triforces might

Makes mortal dreams come true.

With their magic infused blood, the Hylian people were endowed with keen senses, great powers of the mind and skill in wizardry. It was also said that their long pointed ears enabled them to hear special messages from the goddesses, if They had something to let their people know. In Hyrule, there are many Hylian buildings, which are mentioned repeatedly in the legends. These buildings, which now lie in ruins, pale shadows of their former splendor, are closely tied to the Triforce. Some were even said to house the Triforce itself!

For these reasons Hylians were held in high consideration by many people in Hyrule.
